Our goal at Courtland Avenue is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry and edify the Body of Christ.

Every Ministry has to be Evangelistic.
Here is a brief summary of some of our ministries.
Elders: All Elders

Purpose: The Benevolence Ministry acts as a medium through which the congregation at Courtland Avenue reaches out to those with special needs. The intrinsic meaning of Benevolence is providing good for others. "But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased." Hebrews 13:16

Purpose: This ministry is as the Lord commanded...for I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: ---Matthew 25:35

Purpose: This ministry is designed to be a first responder to the bereaved, new mothers, or sickness in the family. It can be comprised of any members of the Church who would like to be involved. "But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased." Hebrews 13:16

Purpose: This ministry offers an opportunity to visit nursing homes in Quitman and surrounding areas. We believe that the entire flock should be encouraged, including our older members that may not be able to make it to worship as much as they desire Members and others can stay close to God through regular worship services. "But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God." I Timothy 5:4

Purpose: To share the love of Christ and His reconciling message with incarcerated individuals in order that they will be able to live more powerful and fulfilling lives in Christ Jesus brining glory to God. "But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe." Galatians 3:22

Purpose: The Transportation committee exists to deal with the ever-changing transportation needs of our congregation and the upkeep of the church buses. We are committed to providing transportation to all who desire to fellowship with us at the scheduled service time. "He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." Mark 16:15-16

Purpose: This ministry is committed to encouraging others to embrace & share the gospel of Jesus the Christ with everyone. We strive to know him and the power of His resurrection. We share the message of his sacrifice to strengthen the church and embrace fellowship with one another. "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations..." Matthew 24:14

Purpose: Being made to feel welcomed whether you are visiting, or a member is important work that lets people know we care. "The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. "I am the the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me." John 10:13-14

Purpose: Aides in equipping the saints with the knowledge and biblical tools needed to navigate from this earthly life to an eternal life in heaven. The ministry stives to encourage both young and old to "to grow in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 3:18

Purpose: Children's accommodations (Birth to 5 years old) - allow parents to worship during service. In the nursery, younger children are given the opportunity to learn more about Jesus through fun and creative activities. "But Jesus said, suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:14

Purpose: Ages 6 to 11 years old - the purpose of Primary education is not only to fill our children's minds with basic moral facts for living, but to also make a spiritual impression on them. We aim to teach them to think with a Christian mind while they are young by turning the message of a spiritual story into something they can understand. "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6

Purpose: Actively raise our youth to become spiritually mature and discover their God-given talents while giving them opportunities to serve those around them and challenge them to honor God with their lives "Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, "I have no pleasure in them. "Ecclesiastes 12:1-2

Purpose: As we grow physically, God wants us to also grow spiritually. Leaving home often fosters the excuse of forsaking God's commands and desires of His pope Young people are encouraged to understand their relationship with God as one that will give them the greatest joy of life - obtaining eternal life while reaping the benefits of good, Godly living in their lives." ...fir acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discreton to the young." "...let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance." Proverbs 1:3-5

Purpose: Church of Christ believes in following the Bible mandate for marriage as outlined in Matthew 19:4-5. The Marriage Ministry is designed to provide healthy fellowship, fun, and guidance to those who are married, engaged, or seriously dating. The ministry is divided into smaller groups of 10-12 persons with one couple serving as marriage coaches. Marriage coaches are our members who have been married for 20+ years. From March until November, each marriage group meets once per month. "And said, For this cause shall man leave father and mother, and cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Matthew 19:5,6

Purpose: OWLS - an acronym for Older Wiser Leaders in Service. Our 55 plus members meet monthly to enjoy Christian fellowship while learning ways to enlighten their spiritual and physical well being. "Do not rebuke an older man harshly but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. I Timothy 5:1

Purpose: Encourages women to live effective, healthy, Godly lives by developing wholeness (mentally, physically, and spiritually) through as practical application of the word of God and daily walk with Christ. "For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil." I Peter 3:12

Purpose: This ministry is to maintain a pictorial account of events and programs, including birthdays, awards of members and their families. "We are His witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him." Acts 5:32
Elders: All Elders

Purpose: This ministry celebrates the monthly birthdays of members and anniversary of married couples. On the last Wednesday of each month after bible study we will celebrate the birthdays and anniversaries of members in that month, with cake and ice cream. "Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it does well with your soul." 3 John 1:1,2

Purpose: This ministry is a conscientious effort to keep the saved, saved. It is an ongoing effort to help our elders reach out to our members. "As a shepherd looks after his scattered clock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness." Ezekiel 34:12

Purpose: This ministry is geared to encourage brothers and sisters y edifying each other in song. "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. ' Colossians 3:16

Purpose: To enhance the learning and worship experience by facilitating audio and video aides. Our worship services are recorded and on our website. "So it is with you. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that building up the church." I Corinthians 14:12

Purpose: Promotes the dissemination of church news, updates, and events via multiple social media and digital platforms. Our mission is to keep the saints edified and engaged by ensuing members are informed through multiple outlets. "For the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ." Ephesians 4:12

Purpose: An opportunity to reach out to the community by providing Biblical related concepts. The program is designed to make one realize how important it is to have God as the center of our lives. "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall ot return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11

Purpose: Responsible for repairs and general upkeep of all church construction. This team also maintains the buildings, lawnm and facilities beholding to the congregation. "Then the Lord sent this message through the prophet Haggai; "Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins?" Haggai 1:3,4

The 4th Thursday of each month is set aside for a great time of fellowship for a game Bingo (our members along with community involvement!
